Wired and Tired

If you are stressed, then you’ll know what it feels like to be both tired and wired at the same time.

When you’re stressed, your adrenal glands are working overtime and eventually you start feeling like you’re exhausted but you can’t stop going either. You are restless and hyper and often reach burn-out stage where you just crash on the weekend.

Preserving your ‘adrenal sanity’ is very important because prolonged adrenal fatigue can lead to adrenal exhaustion.  And once you’re at that stage, you will have a hard time handling stress in the future.

Your adrenals need a few vitamins and minerals to function well. These include vitamin C, Magnesium, and all the B vitamins (especially B12). And don’t forget the all-important vitamin D that you get from the sun.

Your adrenals also need some down time. Make sure you dedicate some time in your day to unwind. Try to meditate, listen to music, take a bath, or just sit in silence. This down time will give your adrenals the chance to recuperate.

You might think that caffeine is good at giving your adrenals a boost but in fact it’s doing the opposite. Caffeine will only send you crashing harder once its effects wear off, so make sure you replace caffeinated drinks with herbal teas and fresh juices.

What superfood can you add?

In addition to fixing your regular diet, what else can you add to push your health to the peak?

Instead of struggling to fix your diet, why don’t you just think of a few super foods that you can add to your daily routine that will make all the difference.

Here are a few suggestions of foods to add:

Beetroot – this amazing vegetable boosts energy and helps detoxify

Steel-cut oats – add fibre to your diet and is also naturally gluten-free

Coconut oil – this amazing addition to your diet can help heal the digestive system and even get rid of any yeast and candida

Chia seeds – these are very high in protein and calcium, so eat up!

Aloe vera gel – as a drink it can heal the digestive system internally. And externally, it can be used on cuts and burns

Almonds – these are alkaline nuts that are full of calcium and magnesium. Soak them and add them as a daily snack, or make almond milk

You can add these ingredients to your morning smoothies or anywhere in your daily routine.
